Dear friend: One way that may solve your problem is to see if local stores will let you put donation cans with your dog's picture and reason for need at check out's. You may be able to raise enough for a down-payment. Also, ask churches the same. Check with local shelters because they sometimes have a vet volunteer. This option may be cheaper. Also, try horse doctors, vets that work with large animals are often cheaper for simple things and do just as good of a and at times are more understanding and caring. You can also check alternative medicines that may strengthen your dog enough to recover on her own. Some foods are bad for dogs because their main ingredients are corn which is no more than fiber for a dog-they can't digest it; chemical preservatives that take away nutrition and vitamins; sugar coated dog food is not good for the dog either. Many dog foods are coated with sugar to give it an appealing taste. I recommend two types of dog food. There should be a dealer in your area that can help you find these. The first one is called Canidae. A forty pound bag will last for two months and it is all natural, holistic dog food. The other is Solid Gold. Both of these have good nutrition and vitamins in them. They are not sprayed with chemical preservatives which block the absorption of vitamins and nutrients. In short, you must limit the amount you feed your dog on this or she will rapidly gain weight. A good feeding amount for my er spaniel is 1/2cup in morning and 1/2 at night. Winter may increase to 3/4 of a cup twice daily. If you cannot find these brands, then you may be able to order them through the net or find a just as good quality holistic dog food in your area. beware of vets that want to sell you special dog food at three times the price You would normally pay. Many vets carry ordinary dog food that just has a different label but is the same or similar to what you buy in a local store. Always check the labels! Take caution using Purina and generic brands. don't feed your best friend food that is not fit for human consumption or high enough quality to p USDA standards for people. If you'd like to e-mail me I would appreciate you letting me know how things turn out. If you do have to put him/her to sleep, there is no easy way. I have had to make that decision once. I still wish I didn't but I was left no choice, but I did do my best and stayed at her side until it was all over. She was always at my side no matter what and deserved no less in return.
Sincerely Yours,
Bill Sann
