: Anyone care to discuss the Poem/Stanza re Cromwell? Personally I think considering Cromwell's history as a cold-blooded, materialistic, murdering opportunist etc., that it is a disgrace and an affront to the people of the countries he looted and plundered, not the least of which was Ireland where he was England's Number 1 henchman!
Yes I feel it is a disgrace on equivalent of printing a eulogy to Hitler. However why call him England's henchman he was Lord Protector of England and as such duty bound to promote England's interests. He also invaded and "degraded" Scotland but that is ignored by the "Irish History" lobby who promote Ireland as the sole victim of English imperialism.
I would neither agree that Cromwell, evil murderer that he was, was "materialist" quite the opposite he refused the English crown when offered to him by parliament, hardly the action of a "materialist". The real irony is that so many of huis followers ended up in the early colonies of the US perpetrating the holocaust on the East Coast native Americans which cleared the way for the so called "Land of the Free"
