Knowing how the Democrats attract young people (and remembering how they once attracted my own youthful energies), I was initially wary and frightened of the damage they could do. Tuesday night had the possibility of being potentially devestating: Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg would speak (no doubt, I umed, invoking teary-eyed memories of dead relatvites, something Kennedys have been doing and doing well since 1964). She would then be followed by Uncle Ted, who usually gets his rhetorical mojo workin' for such moments, usually needling the opposition with humor and aplomb. Uh-oh, I thought. A one-two Kennedy punch.
And then, nothing. Caroline's amatueresque effort kept insisting on speaking over the applause and appreciation the audience felt for her, which she could have rather easily milked, but which she instead kept cutting-off as they strained to hear her. And Ted Kennedy's speech was boring and uninspired.
What happened to the Dems I know and love (and once was)? I always umed that they knew how to throw a party. Guess that's just another example of how memory tends to romanticize the past...
Sir Kingsley, rather disappointed in the loyal opposition...
