Yes, it is true! The New York Times reported on this issue on June 3rd and again on June 9th. Apparently someone "liberated" an internal memorandum at Harper-Collins related to a planned sequel to the Chronicles of Narnia. Of course, this "sequel" will be matched by the release of plush Narnia toys, videos and probably Happy Meals, too. What is so bothersome about this is that the memorandum specifically stated that the Christian allegory stuff would be left out. Harper Collins' idea is to "santatize" the books so as not to alienate non-Christian readers. This pisses me off. I am not a Christian, but I love C.S. Lewis and his work. This is tantamount to writting a Conan novel where the hero doesn't kill anyone so as not to offend those with weak stomachs. Didn't I read in "The Rise and Decline of the Roman Empire" that one of the signs of a faltering civilization is the recycling of art? Can't someone write a different children's novel and leave C.S. Lewis alone? MUST WE ALWAYS ENGAGE IN THE SOULESS PURSUIT OF PROFIT AT THE COST OF OUR DIGNITY?
