Then there's the national security question. When China is richer and mightier than it is now it will almost certainly make a move to intimidate its neighbors and force a regional economic policy which is unfavorable to us. Actually, we'll be lucky if that's all it does. If we ever had to fight China what would happen? Would they continue to sell us the parts for the military equipment we bought from them? If Japan was forced into neutrality would they continue to develop ATF-type fighter jets for us? Would they sell them to China? Would American industry overwhelm the enemy as it did in WW2? What American industry? It's gone now. Would America have an experienced cadre of engineers and skilled workers to roll out the needed equipment? Would we have the physical plants?
