Yeah, I get tired of hearing about The Catholic Church being a pagan church. Many practices of the catholic church have been warped by outsiders to look pagan so that people can believe that catholicism is pagan and the wrong denomination. But like drummerboy says, where's the real proof.
Also, just one thought for everybody who believes that catholics will not got to heaven without being "born again" in your sense of the word, what kind of legacy do you guys think christ left behind?
I mean, we all have to accept that the catholic church is the dominant church. Orthodox also share a large share of christianity, but many of their beliefs coincide or are very close to their catholic bretheren which they split from. Protestants are the most unique split from the Catholic church and are all claiming that they are the true denominations and that they hold the true beliefs of christ.
To take a step back from citing scripture for a second, lets look at some simple facts. According to protestants, jesus came down and gave us the truth as which we are to follow. The first Christian churches start, but soon after the apostles die (along with the true teachings) the church goes corrupt. For 1,500 years everyone who believed in Roman Catholic beliefs, (which are the same as they were in the beginning) perish. It was not until the glorious protestant reformation that became could once again be saved.
Give me a break. Some protestants would actually have me believe that every catholic, or any group that shares most catholic beliefs will not find heaven. What kind of legacy did christ leave behind then. This is almost rediculous. It goes against all odds. To believe this is too say that christ and the apostles are not very good teachers. I mean, obviously, if as soon as the apostles died, and supposedly their power dies with them, the church goes corrupt, this does not speak very well for the longevity of christ's truths. To say that it will take 1500 years until the protestant reformation, where people can then be saved, is rediculous.
I like to dispute beliefs, i find it enlightening, but too condemn a whole denomination, even as rediculous as it sounds, is not something that I would put my name too.
One more question, why did it take 1500 years before this "glorious reformation" before people would understand the "truth" about our christian religion? Besides interpretation of scripture, I see no logic in taking the side of a protestant. The facts just do not stack up. To say that the holy spirit will guide me to the truth without anyone else's aid is rediculous. Obviously, look at what private interpretation has gotten us. 33,000 plus denominations exist in Christianity today. This is a far cry from how many existed in the 1,500's. Gee, I wonder what happened?
God be with you all,
Chris
