The Donatists claimed to be the true heirs of the church of Cyprian and Tertullian because (they claimed) their bishops were free from the taint of apostasy and they upheld the Cyprian view of baptism.
Augustine changed the Church's stance both on baptism and ecclesiology in response to a changed political and societal reality. Why does the Church today find it so difficult to change its position when a new reality emerges e.g. the place of women in ministry, contraception etc? any responses?
