: Hello, Neil! Although I don't live in New York, a little web research led me to a couple of links that may help.
: http://keats.astro.bio2.edu/jacob/ : Jacob Noel-Storr : Columbia University : Astronomy Department : 1328 Pupin Hall (MC5246) : 550 W 120th St. : New York NY 10027
: jake@astro.columbia.edu : W (212) 854 - 8927 : H (212) 280 - 8746 : F (212) 854 - 8121
: Directions to Pupin Obs., Columbia U. : http://www.astro.columbia.edu/directions.html
: The first one is for an astronomy program at Columbia University. You may try to contact Mr. Noel-Storr for specifics, or for other contacts, such as clubs in the area. : The second link is for directions to the observatory the university uses. I'm not sure where it is, but you'd be more familiar than I. : The third link is to a gentleman in New Jersey that has a private observatory. I'd contact him for sure. He'd be familiar with observing under the glare of NYC skies and could be helpful.
: I hope this helps. Of course, if you find yourself in the Phoenix area, look me up!
: I own and operate a small observatory in SW AZ where I educate the public and do variable star research. : : I just got my first telescope and I live in Manhattan. I can see about 10 stars and Jupiter and Saturn from my street. I want to find a place where I can drive that is not too far that I can take my scope for some dark viewing. Does anybody have a favorite place that they can recommend which is near (less than an hour from)Manhattan? : : Thanx in advance : : Neil Farley
My club observatory is in Cranford NJ for complete information see asterism.org Hank Adamd
